Android: How to call method in singleton class using shared preferences

I’m new in android development and I have a question :
Can we call a method in Singleton class from other class through shared preference? Is it possible?

Here is a very basic example of how this could work:

Basically, you want to pass some data from one activity to another.
So, to do that, you will have two steps:
1) Create a shared preference
2) Pass the data to the other activity using the SharedPreference

First, you need to create a class called SharedPreferences, this will store your preferences and will be a singleton:
package net.utopia.example.info;

import android.content.Context;
import android.content.SharedPreferences;

public class SharedPreferences extends SharedPreferences {

public static SharedPreferences getPreferences(Context context) {
return getPreferences(context.getFilesDir(), context.MODE_PRIVATE);
}
}

Now, to create a shared preference from the first activity (you can call it PreferenceActivity), you need to use the getPreferences method from the class above.
String companyName = “”;
SharedPreferences prefs = SharedPreferences.getPreferences(this);
SharedPreferences.Editor editor = prefs.edit();
editor.putString(“companyName”,companyName);
editor.commit();

So now, after the editor is created, you can retrieve the preference in a different activity (this can be called PreferenceActivity, but the thing is, all classes that have to use the shared preference has to extend the class SharedPreferences).
SharedPreferences prefs = SharedPreferences.getPreferences(this, getSharedPreferences(MODE_PRIVATE));
String companyName = prefs.getString(“companyName”, null);

This method creates a new shared preference, and stores the data in the preferences file.
