Catwalk to Closet: Styling Avery Rose as Eveningwear

Avery Rose is a lingerie brand that’s going places. Earlier this year, it expanded into sleepwear with major crossover potential, launching a collection of luscious silk slip dresses and cami sets that were an instant hit. Now the brand has made its catwalk debut, as part of Malena Belafonte’s The Journey Fashion Festival during New York Fashion Week.

“It was the perfect backdrop,” Avery Rose founder Jennifer Coll said about the Duane Park location, a glamorous burlesque venue that’s every bit as ornate as her signature embellished straps. Plus, it’s in New York. “I’m a former New Yorker,” she says, “and a lot of my retailers and customers are there as well as a few of my factories. I was able to invite and finally meet one of my e-commerce partners in person which was so great.”

It was a runway full of glitz and sparkle, showcasing both existing bestsellers and new-season launches. The rhinestone-encrusted June bra from the brand’s debut collection made an appearance, paired with the new Dana robe in matching embroidery and with embellished tassels. The original Jennifer bralette was also featured, its hundreds of Swarovski crystals shimmering under the lights.

Other new designs included longline bralettes in beautiful prints, a lacy chemise, a floaty babydoll, and a shorter version of the current Madison slip dress. But there’s even more to come.

“What didn’t make it on the runway and is in the works are additional ready-to-wear pieces in the silk line, including a fabulous smoking jacket, silk tuxedo pant and a new cami and slip dress to name just few”, says Jennifer.

Sparkle You’ll Want to Show Off

Truly, this is lingerie and loungewear made to be seen. So we thought it would be fun to give you some lingerie-as-outerwear inspiration! Below are two video clips from the show, with tips on styling the featured pieces as eveningwear.

Look One – Silk Slip Dress

“So many of the women that have purchased [silk pieces] send me pictures of themselves wearing the dresses out to dinner or a party,” says Jennifer.

The holiday season is coming, and you won’t find another party dress that makes quite the impression that this slip does! The ruby red is gloriously festive, but the dazzling, crystal-encrusted straps are the true statement maker. I say keep your neckline bare and go minimal with other jewelry, but do don a pair of crystal-adorned sandals.

Look Two – Embellished Bralette

The model looks incredible in the sparkling bralette and leather pants combo, but I get that it’s a hard look to translate into real life. My suggestion would be to throw a sheer mesh t-shirt on top, and voilà, you’re ready to hit the club.

Look One – Lace Chemise

Transform this into a beautiful top for cocktail hour by adding some nipple covers and tucking it into a pencil skirt.

Look Two – Jennifer Bralette

See how that Swarovski band sparkles under the spotlight? Add a touch of shimmer to your outfit by letting this peek out from below a slightly-unbuttoned blouse.

A bright future ahead

As for how the show went down with stockists? “Local existing and potential retailers came to see the line and it’s a fun way to showcase it,” says Jennifer. “We’ve begun to really focus on expanding Avery Rose through exclusive boutiques and select online retailers like Evellier and Darkest Fox. We’re excited about the future of Avery Rose.”

Most of the garments that featured are either available or now or coming very soon. Keep an eye on the brand’s social media to know when they drop!
